Rescheduled Meetings

As you know, we were forced to cancel the August 26 Troop meeting due to festival clean-up, and we have now learned that we must cancel the September 9 meeting due to the Meet-the-Teacher night. With the Court of Honor coming up on September 30, we need more meeting time for Boards of Review and Scoutmaster conferences for all the rank advancements earned over the summer, so instead of having a Committee Meeting on September 23, we will have a regular Troop meeting. To reiterate:

Parents and other family members are cordially invited to the Court of Honor.

Popcorn

Last year Troop 850 participated in the Dan Beard Popcorn Sale for the first time ever. 100% of the profits went into the boys' personal accounts about $1500, total. Participation is optional, but it's a great way for Scouts to make their own contribution to the cost of outings and we encourage everyone to participate. Details will be available at the September 16 meeting.

2004 High Adventure

It's not too early to be thinking about the 2004 High Adventure trip. We will be returning to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northern Minnesota in late June (exact dates TBA). Scouts who will be 13 years of age and at least First Class by then, and have basic swimming skills, are eligible to attend. We hope to have exact dates in December or early January, and nonrefundable deposits will be due by January 31. The cost will be about $450 per person. There will be a limited number of spots (16) due to the strict permitting rules of the National Forest Service. There will be a number of mandatory preparation events during the Spring, dates also to be announced in December. For planning purposes, we would like to get preliminary indications of interest as soon as possible, so please let Mr. Hertlein know if you think you might be interested.

Canoe Trip

Don't forget the canoe trip scheduled the weekend of September 19 21. Permission slips were previously distributed, along with a Morgan's Canoe Rentals release form, and are available on www.troop850.org as well. The turn-in deadline is September 16.

October Campout

We are planning a Wilderness Survival Weekend October 17 — 19 at Miami Whitewater Forest. All Scouts are encouraged to attend. We'll be working on basic outdoors skills and it will be an excellent opportunity to earn those camping-related requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class or First Class. A permission slip is enclosed.
