Next Campout

Troop 850 will once again participate in the Whitewater District's annual Klondike Derby the weekend of January 16 -- 18. Our Scouts will be defending their championship performance in the Spring Camporee last April! This year the Klondike Derby will take place at Camp Friedlander and the theme will be "A Journey with Lewis and Clark." Permission slips are due no later than January 6.

A Campmor Christmas?

The Troop has a special nonprofit account with Campmor, the camping equipment catalog; we get a 10% discount and we're exempt from sales tax -- that amounts to a 16% discount! If you are considering giving any camping-related gifts for Christmas, browse www.Campmor.com and note all the pertinent information (product description, product number, size, color, etc.) and let Mr. Wissemeier or Mr. Hertlein know by December 9 so we can submit a single order.

Scout Night with the Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing at US Bank Center on December 30th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are normally $24, but we can get them for half price, $12, through the Dan Beard Council. This might be a fun activity while the boys are off school. Mr. Trach is organizing a group to attend. Any Scouts, parents or other family members who might be interested in seeing the Globetrotters should contact Mr. Trach no later than our December 16 Court of Honor.

Court of Honor

Our final meeting of the year will be the annual Christmas Court of Honor on December 16. Parents and family members are all invited to join us for recognition of our Scouts' achievements, a slide show with pictures from a number of our 2003 outings and refreshments. We'll also be distributing the 1004 calendar. Be there!!

Youth Protection

Prevention of child abuse of any kind is a high priority of both the Boy Scouts of America and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Both organizations have their own youth protection educational programs that adult leaders must take. Unfortunately, neither organization recognizes the other's program, so our adult leaders must take both. The BSA program is included in the standard leader training events and can also be taken on-line. St. Ignatius offers the Archdiocesan programs periodically and will be following up with us soon. In addition, it is our understanding that the Archdiocese is planning to require all adults who work with youth groups to be fingerprinted! Stay tuned for more details.

Merry Christmas!!
